I am not a linux guru but I has been a system test engineer and I puts my hands on linux for years.
Let me know if I can test Ascendos and the necessary info.

The Ascendos Project / Net Install - Assistance Required
« Last post by misteritguru on February 12, 2012, 01:26:03 PM »
Hello All, Thanks for your time,

I'm trying to do a net install of Ascendos - Writing a small article for my blog. I've hit a stumbling block.

What URL can I use for the net install? :)

I can't find the file install.img on the mirrors, it seems to be missing. The URL I'm looking at is,

http://eu1.mirror.ascendos.org/development/6/i386/os/

Shouldn't there be a folder under os called images?

Any assistance appreciated!

Thanks

Hi Guys,

Well, here's an idea

Ascendos X for the current stable version. The one we want people to download and use as default.

For example, Ascendos built from RHEL 6.y will be Ascendos X: but when RHEL 7.0 comes out Ascendos 7.0 becomes Ascendos X, and the current Ascendos X becomes just Ascendos 6.y

Make sense?

I can see how it might cause issues with Google searches etc, which is why I am also in favour of Ascendos 5.7,6.0,7.1 etc

Great, I'm in the minority.  :(

My personal preference is that the name be written as:
  %(Brand) %(Red Hat Equivilent Designation) %(Version).%(Release)
So we'd end up with:
  "Ascendos EL 6.2"
as a release. That way, anyone seeing it knows right away that the "product" is the downstream build of RHEL 6.2 done by the Ascendos team.

Don't think clarity is important? What version is "Denny" in the Debian stream?

Hi forum, just swinging by to show my interest.:)

I'd like to see...

ACX, or maybe even ALX (Alix so to speak).

so, ALX2, or ACX2.7, that sort of thing.

I'm a systems admin from London, UK and I love computer systems! I've been waiting on a community that I could really sink my teeth into, and I think I found it!

I really want to see what the community can accomplish - We've witnessed great things in the FOSS world around the desktop, I wonder what can be done around the server side... "Ascendos - The Distro for REAL Sys Ads" I said it first!

Hi Guys, I'm happy to be on board with this project. Lets KICK SOME BUTT!

Woohoo!

I am not easily excited, but I am getting my MOJO BACK! Installing the ISO, and getting a feel for this new, but potentially most awesome distro to be based of RHEL.

The next few years will be exciting!

On that 6.1 build we posted screenshots of, we had "Kosciuszko" as the codename. Kosciuszko is mountain in the Snowy Mountains of Australia. Given that our lead developer is Australian, it would be a nice symbolism.

Anyone got any other ideas? I'll be staring a more formal nomination process shortly.

Im not a very big fan of forums, so don't expect me here very often. I will try to be on your IRC channel

We've been conspicuously absent from the IRC channel for a while. If you want to catchup with the team, you'll have more luck on the mailing list. Cheers AC

We now have a 'dogfood1' build available for early testers. This is our pre-alpha build to check for any shipstopping bugs before our formal alpha release.

If you're interested in participating in the testing then signup to our dev mailing list and make yourself known.
