Getting involved (Introduce yourself)
« on: June 30, 2011, 03:18:10 PM »
If you're interested in helping out and getting involved, then join us on IRC at #ascendos on Freenode.

Right now we're busy working on the big infrastructure bits necessary to make this happen.

If you're able to help out even in a small way, we'd love for you to let us know. I'm sure in time, we'll have need for many things...

Hi there.

Long time CentOS and Fedora user (and also from the SL forum) here.

I'd love to help out, but am about to start a new job and may have no more free time (a luxury I've enjoyed for the last couple of years). Then there's the matter of lacking skill and talent ....  ;)  Anyway, I'll keep an eye on the project and if time becomes available, I'll let you know.

BTW, I'm in Brissie.

Hey Guys, thanks for stopping by and giving us your words of support. We're still laying the foundations, but we're moving quickly. So watch this space.

If you're interested in the development side of things, then it might be worthwhile signing up the **shiny new** mailing list: http://lists.ascendos.org/

Cheers, Andrew

Hi there,

I'm allready using CentOS5 and SL6. Happy to look into ascendOS. I would also be available for helping in testing. Should be able to test DVD-installs on VirtualBox and ESXi4-Servers. And, if available, one or another x-series server.

cheers

Hi,

I'm currently an Sl5/6 and Archlinux user. I'm liking the sound of this project and would like to get involved in the development.

Cheers, Barry

Hello,
Troy Dawson here, one of the main developers of Scientific Linux.
For the record, I am here on my personal time, not Fermilab time.  So, if you send me emails about Ascendos to me, please send it to yortnoswad@gmail.com, and not my work email address.
I'm ready to help, where do you want me.
Troy
p.s. I know I'm not a big forum person, but I sorta hate being the first poster on the development list.

Well well looky here  ;D yes I'm from SL to  8).

I don't know to much about programing but would like to learn how to build an OS from source rpms.

But now if you need some graphics made up I can do that, and here is a link to some I have made. My Wallpapers
Some have Scientific Linux on them but most do not.

Thanks guys. We'll be in contact as soon as we've worked out how best to include you in the project. Right now we're building the core team, and we've got most of our bases covered, but if anyone has koji experience, or can help theme our moinmoin wiki then please stand up :)

Fan of SL, myself.

I'd be willing to test Ascendos, as well.

Hey Everyone,

I am one of the Directors of OrionVM and would love to see this project take off! There is a definite need here for a generic EL distribution.

That is a quick introduction. Between myself and my co-founders here at OrionVM, we will be contributing as much compute power as required to back this project. We have contributed a small amount now to run the current infrastructure, but we will be providing access to build servers, etc as time goes on.

Here is to helping out Ascendos!

Cheers,
Sheng

Thanks again Sheng! And welcome to the forum.

You know how I'm a fan of real-world benchmarks...  I think here we might have a opportunity here to invent a new cloud performance benchmark based on EL building. ;D

Hello,

I'm a longtime linux user, and more relevantly, entusiastic distro forker.  Thus far, only the rpm based varieties.  I've contributed code to Fedora's LiveCD-Tools, and related LiveCD-installer stuffs in Anaconda.  I have my own alternate spin/strain generating/forking-lite toolset at viros.org, though I'm probably the only user at the moment.  All of my personal LiveCD/DVD/USB 'strains' include my rebootless LiveOS installer, which briefly was used in sugar-on-a-stick-v2, but otherwise hasn't caught on.  I intend to support ascendos as a base/ancestor in viros, alongside SL/CentOS/Fedora, and distribute at least one descendent strain based on AscendOS (named DescendOS only if permission is granted :).

I hope to find some way to contribute to AscendOS beyond just using it.  To start I'll probably just start rattling off random thoughts and ideas to the dev mailinglist.

peace...
